Byrd watching season has reached its peak.
Riana Byrd, the Richmond native and San Jose State University star basketball center, grabbed nine rebounds in a 59-58 win over New Mexico on Saturday, enough for her to surpass the 1,000-career rebound plateau, according to her school.
With that, Byrd has joined the 1,000 points/1,000 rebounds club — although it’s a small club. She is only the second player in SJSU history to reach that career milestone, joining SJSU Hall of Famer Elinor Banks.
Byrd, an alum of Inderkum High in Sacramento, reached 1,000 career points against Fresno State. She accomplished that feat in 112 games, averaging 9 points per game. She is the 14th player in program history to surpass 1,000 points, the school said.
