El Cerrito: Woman’s plan to hold elderly man’s glasses for ransom lacks vision

El Cerrito: Woman accused of swiping elderly man's glasses from face, holding them for ransom

A Richmond woman is accused of swiping an elderly man’s glasses from his face and refusing to return them until he paid her money — all over an alleged vehicle collision at an El Cerrito shopping center that could not be substantiated by police.

The incident was reported at 3:19 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the shopping center at 11555 San Pablo Ave., according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

According to police, the 51-year-old Richmond woman and her husband accused the elderly man of striking their parked vehicle. Despite no visual evidence of a collision, the woman demanded payment.

“During the accusation, the female took the elderly male’s glasses off his face and held them until he paid them money,” police said.

A citizen came to the aide of the elderly man. Police responded, arrested the woman, booked her at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported her to the Martinez Detention Facility. Her identity wasn’t immediately available.
