It’s a lesson many people who work remotely or study at local coffee shops have had to learn the hard way.

Police are searching for a teenage thief who stole a woman’s tablet from a table while she was waiting in line for her coffee at the Starbucks at 3090 El Cerrito Plaza.

The theft occurred at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The suspect is described as a white man, 18 year old, standing 5-10, weighing 130 pounds and wearing a red-and-black sweatshirt and grey and black sweatpants, police said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have advised treating coffee shops as a public space rather than a private office, making sure to keep all of personal items with you at all times.
