Lightening-hot Riana Byrd netted her third double-double of the season for San Jose State University on Wednesday night, and climbed to within 21 points of 1,000 career points at the school.

Byrd, who has an opportunity to reach that impressive milestone when her team faces New Mexico on Saturday, would become the 14th player in SJSU women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points.

To date, she also has 938 rebounds, just eight boards shy of tying the second highest career rebound effort by Rhoda Chew in 1985.

Byrd, an alum of Inderkum High in Sacramento, scored 17 points and 13 points in the 78-75 loss to Boise State Wednesday.
