Junior forward Jeffrey Parker, a Richmond native and Salesian alum, scored a career-high 39 points to help the Western Washington Vikings win 100-99 in overtime against the University of Alaska Thursday night, according to radio station KGMI790.

Parker, who was 15 of 28 from the field — including 8 of 17 from three-point range — turned in the most points by a Great Northwest Athletic Conference player this season and the eighth most in WWU history. His team is now 9-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Parker’s success isn’t a surprise. He was a unanimous pick for the league’s preseason all-conference team and placed second in the balloting behind Andy Avgi, the Western Oregon forward who was last year’s GNAC Player of the Year.
