A 25-year-old man was fatally shot near Kennedy High in Richmond Wednesday night, police said.

At 9:41 p.m., Richmond police dispatch received a call about a shooting in the 4700 block of Fall Avenue, with the caller adding that the potential victim was lying east of State Court Park, Lt. Andre Hill said.

Police arrived to find Kameron Wilhite, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded and administered medical attention, but Wilhite was pronounced dead moments later at the scene, Hill said.

“At this point in the investigation detectives have not determined a motive for the shooting, and there is no suspect information at this time,” Hill added.

Hill said the shooting was the reason residents heard helicopters over their neighborhoods Wednesday night. He also said the Shotspotter gun detection system confirmed the location of the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is encouraged to contact Detective M. Castillo at 510-620-6622.

It was Richmond’s second homicide of 2016.
