A 55-year-old Richmond man was killed in a crash on Highway 1 in Sonoma County on Thursday, and the other driver involved in the collision is suspected of driving under the influence, according to Bay City News, citing  California Highway Patrol officials.

Jeffrey Simon was driving a 1994 Toyota pickup south on Highway 1 about 2:10 p.m. when 31-year-old Vallejo resident Kyle Ferguson, who had been driving north at the time, failed to negotiate a curve in a blue 2001 Ford Crown Victoria.

The Ford struck the Toyota, killing Simon. Ferguson had been traveling at an unsafe speed of 35 mph.

Simon’s wife, a passenger, was uninjured.

Officers booked Ferguson into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter.

According to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Simon and his wife also owns a home in the Sea Ranch area, near the crash scene.
