Salesian basketball star Minyon Moore (pictured on left alongside teammate Jordan Hobson) was named the Bay Area Newsgroup’s East Bay Athlete of the Week after scoring a whopping 67 points in two games.

In a 79-73 overtime victory over Brookside Christian on Dec. 29, the point guard who has committed to playing for the University of Southern California next year recorded 32 points, six assists and five steals, BANG reported.

The following day, in a 85-71 loss to Lynnwood of Bothell, Wash., Moore racked up 35 points, 10 steals and six assists.

Moore’s success was highlighted in a recent BANG article that discussed Salesian’s high hopes for this year.

“Her ability to create a shot and hit the open shot has really improved,” Pride Head Coach Steve Pezzola told BANG. “She’s become a more complete player.”

And she’s got plenty of help around her.

Moore has skilled classmates in Saint Mary’s signee Jordan Hobson, versatile guard Rayana Ross and sharpshooter JulieAnne Martin,” the article noted, adding, “Plus the Pride welcome towering freshman Angel Jackson, the tallest teammate Moore has had in her four-year career that includes last season’s NCS championship.”

Salesian has opened its preseason with a 10-3 record. On Saturday, the team travels to St. Mary’s High-Stockton for a 4 p.m. game. Its next home game is against Pinole Valley High on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
