Residents are invited to the first community tree planting day of 2016 in Richmond.

Folks are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday at 995 Lassen St., on the corner of Lassen and McBryde, according to Richmond Trees, the community organization that has been working to green the city.

The last tree planting event occurred in November, when volunteers planted 19 trees in the area of Andrade Avenue and 29th Street.

Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle and their favorite tools if they have them (including shovel and clippers). Some tools will be provided.

“It’s a fun, productive way to spend the morning,” organizers said. “We are transforming our city one tree at a time and it’s exciting to be a part of it!”

Let Richmond Trees know you are coming by emailing info@richmondtrees.org. You can also sign up for the event on Facebook.
