A 2-year-old girl was fatally struck by a pickup truck driven by one of her parents in what police are calling a tragic accident in Richmond Thursday afternoon.

Police responded at 2:21 p.m. to the scene in the 300 block of Beck Street, where they found a young child being clutched by one of her parents, Lt. Felix Tan said.

“Officers quickly realized the 2 yr old female was struck by one of her parents with the family’s car,” Tan said.

Tan told news outlets that the child may have been chasing after the parent to say goodbye.

The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As of this writing, this incident appears to be a tragic accident,” Tan said, adding “RPD Chaplains responded to the scene to offer support and the department’s Peer Support Team was also activated for the responding officers.”
