San Pablo family saved by smoke detector

San Pablo mom and children saved by smoke detector

A San Pablo mother and her two children ages 17 and 21 were saved by a smoke detector that alerted them to a fire at their three-bedroom home Sunday morning, a fire official said.

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 900 block of Road 20, Contra Costa Fire Protection Cap. Lisa Martinez said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 6:33 a.m., Martinez said. The fire, which was confined to a bedroom, caused about $10,000 in damage and is under investigation.

Martinez stressed the importance of regularly testing smoke detectors in homes, since the device “saved this family’s life.”
