A woman was killed after gunshots were fired into the vehicle she was riding in at Hilltop Drive and San Pablo Avenue in Richmond Thursday afternoon, police said.

At 1:40 p.m., Richmond police received numerous reports of a vehicle collision at that intersection, but when they arrived at the scene they saw the vehicle had been struck by gunfire, Lt. Andre Hill said.

The shooting victim, who hasn’t been identified, was described as a woman who had been sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel at the scene, Hill said.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that the occupant(s) of an unknown vehicle fired at the victim prior to the collision,” Hill said. “No other occupants inside the victim vehicle were injured.  At this time we have not determined a motive for the shooting nor is there any other suspect information.”

The shooting marked the 19th homicide of the year for Richmond.
