El Cerrito police have released the above image in the hope of catching a suspect who made off with several hundred thousand dollars from the bank branch inside Safeway.

At 10:38 a.m. Monday, the suspect presented a note to a teller at the U.S. Bank El Cerrito Safeway branch at 11450 San Pablo Ave. demanding money and claiming to have a firearm, although none was seen, police Sgt. Ian Wong said.

The teller filled several bags with cash, and the suspect fled with it. He was described as a black man standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing roughly 150 pounds.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call El Cerrito police at (510) 215-4400. An unspecified reward is being offered to information leading to an arrest.
