BART will alter its schedule for New Year’s Eve in an effort to accommodate the influx of passengers headed to San Francisco for the fireworks show and other festivities.

On Thursday, Dec. 31, the transit agency will run a normal weekday evening service schedule that will extend until 3 a.m., and after midnight trains from downtown San Francisco will run every 20 minutes, the transit agency said.

After 8 p.m., San Francisco-bound trains along the Richmond and Pittsburg/Bay Point lines will not stop at Embarcadero Station, but will skip over to Montgomery Street Station. This is part of a “skip-stop” strategy aimed at relieving overcrowding at Embarcadero Station, according to BART. After midnight, those headed back on the Richmond and Pittsburg/Bay Point lines must return to Montgomery Street Station to catch their train, as trains on these lines will not stop at Embarcadero Station.
