The San Pablo Cowboys have much to celebrate at the program’s awards banquet on Dec. 20, after their Cadet team finished in third place at the American Youth Football National Championships in Orlando, Fla.

The inspiring Cowboys team (ages 8-10), filled with solid students who have shown tremendous heart on the field, defeated the Southside Ducks from Houston 34-0 on Friday in the contest for third place.

The Cowboys entered the national championships as a No. 5 seed in its division and dominated its first game against the Parkside Warriors of Maryland, 27-0. The team fell in its second game to the No. 1 seeded Dulles Patriots of Virginia, 25-6. The Patriots went onto to win the championship after blanking a North Carolina team 18-0.

For the Cowboys, the journey to becoming one of the nation’s top teams has been long but well worth it, and also a community effort. More than $10,000 was raised from individual donors to fund the team’s trip to the East Coast. The City of San Pablo contributed another $6,000.

“Thank you the City of San Pablo and all other donors,” the team said in a statement.

The awards banquet will take place at Maple Hall Community Center in San Pablo at 3 p.m.
