Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle who fled following a fatal collision on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond early Sunday.

The California Highway Patrol received a call at 4:12 a.m. about a collision between two vehicles in the eastbound lanes just west of the Carlson Boulevard on-ramp. Arriving officers located a man in the roadway suffering from major injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he died, the CHP said. His identity was not immediately available.

Officers are seeking a red Honda sedan in connection with the crash. The Honda has a damaged right-side bumper and is missing its right side side-view mirror, officials said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the incident is asked to contact the CHP’s tip line at (800) 835-5247 or the Oakland CHP office at (510) 450-3821.
