BART launched an online service this week providing riders with real-time updates on the status of escalators at stations.

The online advisory, which can be found here, lists escalators, their location, the reason they’re out of service and an estimated return to service date.

The tool updates every minute.

“This information can help riders plan and time their trip, especially if they have mobility issues,” said BART Spokeswoman Alicia Trost.

The service is part of BART’s recent efforts to improve availability of escalators. From July through September, BART’s street level escalator availability averaged 94.57-percent while platform level availability averaged 95.7-percent, the agency said.

BART also provides elevator advisories online and through email and text.
