For first time, RPD hires civilian to handle complaints against cops

The Richmond Police Department will conduct a DUI sobriety checkpoint from Friday night to Saturday morning on Cutting Boulevard near John F Kennedy Park, the department announced Wednesday.

The checkpoint will run from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the intersection of Cutting and South 41st Street, police said.

The checkpoint is funded through a grant secured by the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

Police officers will be joined at the checkpoint by volunteers from the Bay Area chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
