El Cerrito police arrest three people in connection with package thefts

Three people were arrested by El Cerrito police on Friday in connection with package thefts from a residential neighborhood.

Anthony Kerman, 27, of El Cerrito, and Richmond residents Robert Springer, 35 and Marie Concepcion, 21, were taken into custody on multiple charges. The arrests comes as local police have increased patrols of residential neighborhoods in response to an increase in package thefts during the holiday season, police said.

At about 1:35 p.m. Friday, plainclothes officers in an unmarked car spotted a suspicious vehicle near Barrett and Tamalpais avenues.

“Officers monitored the vehicle as it slowly drove around and stopped at various locations,” police said. “During the surveillance operation, the occupants from the suspect vehicle discarded several opened Amazon boxes in the middle of the street.”

Uniformed personnel were then dispatched, and they stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Key Boulevard and Conlon Avenue, police said.

The suspects were in possession of stolen Amazon packages, burglary tools, a pellet gun that looked like a real gun and a ski mask.

Kerman, the driver, possessed methamphetamine and was wanted for a parole violation warrant. Springer possessed several auto burglary tools and Concepcion possessed numerous persons personal identifying information, police said.

All three were booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
