Richmond Mayor Tom Butt is set to fly to Paris on Friday to attend a gathering of leaders from cities around the world who will share ideas, strategies and goals on tackling climate change.

The event, hosted by Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, coincides with the  United Nations Climate Change Conference, according to the Richmond mayor’s office.

Butt will take part in a meeting among the Compact of Mayors, a coalition of city leaders worldwide who have been taking steps to tackle climate change. The event is hosted by Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Richmond’s tapping of renewable sources from Marin Clean Energy (MCE) will be highlighted in Paris, among other initiatives, Butt said.

“This historic event…will help ensure that the voices of local leaders are heard, and city efforts, like those here in Richmond are recognized,” said Mayor Butt.
