A Richmond gas station is getting into the holiday spirit by offering free Thanksgiving Day meals.

Traditional turkey dinners will be handed out from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chevron station at 13065 San Pablo Ave. The event is a first for the gas station.

The station’s owner, AK Ibrahim, is known for giving back to the community, and his gas station is known in town for its great customer service. The reader who tipped us off to this charitable event described Ibrahim as “a great guy who loves to help the community.”

She said she had never seen a gas station holding such an event.

“Most of our customers are regulars,” Ibrahim said. “It’s an appreciation to them during this holiday season. We just want to help people in the community, since some could use it.”

Ibrahim’s good deed has sparked more good deeds. To help his effort, distributors provided 200 free sodas toward the free meals, Ibrahim said.

He has ordered six turkeys along with gravy, potato salad, macaroni salad and house salad.

Here’s one of the signs hung up at the Chevron station:
