WCCUSD honored for boosting number of students who take and pass AP coursework

West Contra Costa Unified (WCCUSD) was named to the 6th annual AP District Honor Roll for its efforts to increase the number of students who are successfully passing more rigorous coursework, the district said Monday.

The district received the award for increasing the number of students taking Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams, which offer college credit and readiness. At the same time, the district increased the percentage of students who passed the tests. Since 2013, the number of AP test takers in the district increased from 1,122 to 1,254, while the number of tests taken increased from 1,825 to 2,106.

The number of tests passed increased from 595 to 645, the district said.

The district was one of 29 in California and one of 425 in the U.S. and Canada to be named to the AP District Honor Roll, which is put together by the College Board.

“This award is the result of the emphasis our Board of Education and staff has placed on preparing all of our students for college,” Superintendent Bruce Harter said.
