San Jose State State University has coined the perfect phrase to describe what fans of its women’s basketball team will be doing this season: “Byrd watching.”
The phrase references Riana Byrd’s inching closer to basketball history. In her senior season, she aims to become just the second player at the school to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career.
The Richmond native currently has 836 points and 833 rebounds and is on pace to join the 1,000/1,000 club in February, the school said. Last season, she became among the top three players in school history in number of rebounds and blocks.
Byrd graduated from Inderkum High School in Sacramento.
