For first time, RPD hires civilian to handle complaints against cops

An 88-year-old woman who went missing from an Iron Triangle care center last week was located by Richmond police officers within two hours and had been suffering from “some sort of medical distress,” police said.

The woman, who suffers from dementia, was found lying face-down on the ground next to a garbage dumpster Friday night, near to an adult care facility in the 1000 block of Macdonald Avenue where she has been receiving care, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said Tuesday.

She was reported missing about 5:20 p.m.

“Officers arrived and searched the area for her,” Tan said.

Once she was found, an ambulance was called to transport her to a local trauma center.

“Because of the officers’ quick actions in a coordinated and systematic search, she is recovering and doing well,” Tan said.
