UCLA sees big games from Kennedy High alums Saturday

The UCLA football team received a big boost from Kennedy High grads Takkarist McKinley and Kenneth Walker III on Saturday, as the Bruins blanked Oregon State 41-0.

Defensive end McKinley had two of the team’s three sacks, along with five solo tackles, three for losses, during the route. Walker caught a pass for 63 yards.

A lot has been written about McKinley and the role UCLA’s improving defensive line has played in the team’s three-game win streak. McKinley’s speed and athleticism were praised in this Pac-12 highlights video from Saturday’s game.

A report by the Los Angeles Times talked about how UCLA’s defensive line has been spending time with a martial arts instructor to work on hand-to-hand combat techniques.

“We just have to win our one-on-one battles, it’s that simple,” McKinley told the Times. “We practice our technique and get out there and win.”
