When Alan Blavins handed Peres Elementary teacher Christy Chen the $100 gift, he was as surprised and grateful for the experience as she.
“It was amazing how emotional [the teachers] got over this simple act,” Blavins said.
On Wednesday, Blavins went to Peres Elementary in order to donate $100 checks to each of the school’s 30 full time teachers on behalf of the Richmond Rotary Club.
The club has done this annually for 20 years. Its members reach into their own pockets to raise the money, Blavins said.
Blavins said it was even more rewarding to personally deliver the funds to Principal Jawan Eldridge (pictured above) and two teachers.
He had nothing but great things to say about the students.
“They know what they’re doing over there,” Blavins said. “I was amazed at the whole thing.”
