Three 20-year-old Richmond men were arrested last weekend in connection with an attempted armed robbery in Oakland Friday night that turned deadly, police said.

Suspects Clarence Choice, Marchon King and Melvin Lee Stewart were booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin in connection with the fatal shooting of Carlos Lopez, 35, of Oakland. Choice and King were booked on suspicion of murder and attempted robbery, while Stewart was booked only on the attempted robbery charge, police said.

The incident occurred in the 3200 block of East 16th Street about 11 p.m., police said, when three men attempted to rob Lopez and his friend, 28-year-old Daniel Revels of Alameda. During the attempted robbery, Lopez was shot multiple times. Revels exchanged gunfire with the suspects and escaped injury, but was arrested on suspicion of a weapons offense, police said.
