We just learned through this video posted by the Richmond Convention & Visitors Bureau that a retired Italian soccer professional opened the Café Gran Milan earlier this year, a high-end artisan bakery and coffeehouse at 5327 Jacuzzi St. in Richmond.

Rufo Emiliano Verga was a soccer star who represented Italy at the 1992 Olympics. His promising career was cut short due to nagging knee problems, but soon he found another promising career making incredible bread.

Verga and his partner Ivo, who crafts artisan desserts, came to the U.S. from Italy two years ago. Cafe Gran Milan offers Italian coffee along with sandwiches, desserts, pizzas and more.
