Veteran El Cerrito High baseball coach Brian Nichols has been told he will not be rehired for the 2015-16 season, the Contra Costa Times has reported.

The coach says he wasn’t given a reason for his termination, the newspaper said, which added that Nichols was issued an ultimatum by the school’s athletic director this past summer to resign or be terminated.

The Times says school officials did not return its calls for comment, while the school district said it could not legally discuss personnel matters. At an Oct. 7 school district board meeting, parents and supporters spoke in opposition of the decision to oust Nichols.

  1. Coach Nichols was like a second father. So sad to hear this!
