The Contra Costa Times broke interesting news this week about a beer garden that is scheduled to open this fall along San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito.

The beer garden will be located behind the former Sky Lounge at 10458 San Pablo Ave. near Waldo Avenue, which has reopened with new owners under the name, Barney McBear’s Social Club, the newspaper said. It will include “a long communal table and space heaters, a revised color scheme for the interior, and a new name,” new owner Scott McFadden told the Times.

McFadden, also co-owner of the successful Kensington Circus Pub in Kensington, hopes to turn the Sky Lounge’s traditional bar atmosphere into a community gathering space. The beer garden is expected to remain open until midnight and to begin accepting customers in early November, the newspaper reported.

While no food will be served in the lounge, a food truck is already operating full-time next to the beer garden.
