Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline to be closed for trail improvements all day Tuesday

The East Bay Regional Park District will close Pt. Isabel Regional Shoreline and the adjacent Bay Trail from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday in order to conduct trail maintenance.

No one will be able to enter the park from either the Isabel Street or Rydin Road sides, and also Mudpuppy’s Dog Wash and the Sit and Stay Cafe will be closed for the day, the park district said.

“The Marina Bay-to-Point Isabel Trail from the bridge at Meeker Slough to the end of Rydin Road will be closed; there will be no access to North Point Isabel,” the district said in a statement. “The trail from the end of Central Avenue to Isabel Street will also be closed.”

Work crews will slurry seal the asphalt on the trail in order to keep it smooth, protected and longer-lasting. Because the material being used is sticky, smelly and hard to remove, the district doesn’t want people or dogs on it.

“The project will take all day, including drying time,” the district said.”We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but closing the park for one day is the safest, most efficient and economical way to complete this project,” the district said.

North Point Isabel trails will not receive this asphalt treatment but will still be closed. That trail is slated to receive improvements at a later date. Pinole Shores/Hercules and the Wildcat Creek Trail are also slated to receive similar treatment.

The county’s half-cent sales tax Measure J is funding the trail improvements, officials said.

“We hope everyone, and their dogs, will understand and enjoy the improvement to this popular park,” the district said.
