Richmond residents awakened by 11 gunshots Friday morning

Some residents of Richmond’s North & East neighborhood were awakened Friday morning by the sounds of 11 gunshots, but no one was injured, police said.

Richmond Police Commissioner Felix Hunziker first reported the incident on a neighborhood Facebook page, having heard about it on a police scanner.

At 5:35 a.m., 11 rounds were fired in the 600 block of 30th Street, police Lt. Andre Hill confirmed.

Police responded and did not locate any victims, vehicles, or dwellings struck by gunfire, Hill said, adding that it is likely that someone was firing the weapon into the air.
