College coaches’ poll pays respect to Richmond’s Jeffrey Parker

Richmond native Jeffrey Parker scores career-high 39 points for Western Washington Vikings

Salesian alum Jeffrey Parker, currently a junior forward on the Western Washington University men’s basketball team, is highly regarded by coaches in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).

The Richmond native was a unanimous pick for the league’s preseason all-conference team, which was announced Wednesday. In addition, he placed second in the balloting behind Andy Avgi, the Western Oregon forward who was last year’s GNAC Player of the Year.

Parker, who made the conference’s second team as a sophomore, has earned the accolades. Last season, he was sixth in the league in points per game at 15.6 and shot 50.7 percent from the field and 43.4 from three-point range. In a conference statement, he was described as a “skilled player from both the inside and the outside.”

Western Washington will open its new season on Oct. 30 at the D2 CCA Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim. Conference play begins Dec. 1.
