A 31-year-old Richmond woman was sentenced to 21 years in state prison Tuesday for fatally shooting a 16-year-old ex-boyfriend who police said also fathered a child with her, according to Bay City News.
Melinda Gaffney pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter with an enhancement for using a firearm in connection with the April 8 killing of Terrance Forks in the 3900 block of Fleming Avenue, near the Crescent Park apartment complex. Gaffney shot the teen following an argument about his new girlfriend, Bay City News stated, citing police reports. She took off after the shooting in a white Lexus but turned herself in a week later, police said.
Gaffney was reportedly not charged in connection with her sexual relationship with a minor. While police have reported that Forks had a child with Gaffney, several people who claim to know the couple have disputed that report online.
