Contra Costa Superior Court to restore some hours and services

Contra Costa Superior Court announced Tuesday it will soon restore some of the services and hours that were cut due to budget cuts of recent years.

Effective Nov. 1, the clerk’s office at all county court locations will remain open until 3 p.m. on weekdays instead of the current 1 p.m., according to a news release. Traffic windows will continue to remain open until 4 p.m.

Effective Nov. 4, Night Traffic Court will be reinstated on the first and third Wednesday each month in Walnut Creek from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Budget cuts over the last several years forced the court to reduce hours and eliminate Night Traffic Court, according to the court statement. An article in Contra Costa Lawyer in June 2014 cited funding cuts by the state Legislator for the cost-cutting measures.

Since then, the Contra Costa Superior Court’s operating revenues “have only partially recovered,” according to the court’s statement.

“The court’s judicial officers and staff have been working hard to revision and re-engineer operations in order to create efficiencies and more effective services,” the statement read.
