Don’t plan to leave town this Saturday, as many community members are headed to the Home Front.
The free 9th Annual Home Front Festival is set to take place at three sites along the Richmond waterfront on Saturday and is jam-packed with fun activities for the whole family.
The festival will feature a wide variety of events, including live music, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, however, literally sets off running at 9 a.m., when the YMCA 5K & 10K fun run/walk begins at Craneway Pavilion at 1414 Harbour Way South. The run/walk benefits the Hilltop YMCA youth fitness programs.
After the race, festival activities will start at Rosie the Riveter National Park Visitor Center, Marina Bay Park (Marina Bay Parkway and Regatta Avenue) and on the Red Oak Victory Ship (foot of Canal Blvd.).
The flyer below lists each site’s activities. Near Craneway Pavilion, attendees are encouraged to visit the nearby Rosie the Riveter National Park Visitor Center in order to meet a real-life Rosie the Riveter. At the center, your kids can become an honorary park ranger, and you’ll also enjoy a free visit to the new permanent collection of artifacts.
The Red Oak Victory Ship will be open to tours and serving famous Red Oak Hot Dogs. The Blue Angels will be soaring over they Bay and late afternoon a perfect spot to view is from the deck of the Red Oak Victory Ship.
Even more entertainment centers on Marina Bay Park, where four bands will offer a variety of musical styles, including blues, jazz and traditional Mexican music.
New this year, the Flying DUBS acrobatic team will put on a show honoring the Warriors’ NBA title. Check them out here:
Marina Bay Park will also feature plenty of fun things to do for kids including a bicycle rodeo, family bicycle tour, choo choo train rides and petting zoo. Free flu shots from Walgreens will be available.
The list of activities is fun and long. This flyer has all the good info:
