Richmond man arrested in connection with Oakland body dump case

A 36-year-old Richmond man was arrested Friday in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found wrapped in plastic and left on an Oakland street earlier this week, police said.

The body of 24-year-old Neil Jordan Akin, of Richmond, was discovered about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of Union Street, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.

Oakland homicide detectives soon learned that Akin had ties to Richmond. RPD homicide detectives joined the investigation and located a crime scene inside a residence in the 500 block of 16th Street in Richmond, Tan said. They then discovered that the home’s resident, 36-year-old Seth Rumi Sears, had known Akin for a number of years and had had an argument with him prior to the homicide.

RPD detectives obtained a $1 million dollar arrest warrant for Sears, who was located in a car in Richmond and arrested following a traffic stop, Tan said.

Further details about the case were not immediately available. This investigation, however, is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact RPD Homicide Det. D. Wellhausen at (510) 620-6860.
