Cedric Byron Harris, 56, of Pinole, was killed on San Pablo Dam Road in El Sobrante on Friday when the vehicle he was driving veered into oncoming traffic and struck another car head-on, authorities said.

The crash occurred near Tri Lane about 5:20 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. Harris was driving a 2003 Cadillac in the westbound lane at speed of about 45 mph when for an unknown reason his vehicle went into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2003 Mitsubishi, CHP said.

The Mitsubishi driver and her three passengers were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with minor to moderate injuries, according to the CHP.

The collision led to a four-hour road closure of San Pablo Avenue and thus significant traffic delays.
