Body wrapped in plastic and dumped on Oakland street may have been Richmond homicide

Man fatally struck in Richmond Tuesday

The body of a 24-year-old man that was wrapped in plastic and left on an Oakland street on Tuesday may have stemmed from a murder in Richmond, police said.

About 8 a.m., Oakland police responded to reports of a body wrapped in plastic and dumped in the 2600 block of Union Street, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said Wednesday.

The victim has been identified only as a 24-year-old white man with ties to Richmond. OPD detectives contacted RPD about the grisly discovery, and both departments are working together to solve the case.

“So far, the investigation suggests that the murder occurred in Richmond,” Tan said. “Due to the fluid movement of this investigation, we are not ready to release information about the victim, suspect or location of the crime.  It appears that this incident is not a random act, but an isolated incident.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Richmond Police Homicide Det. D. Wellhausen at (510) 620-6860.
