Calls about an armed suspect at Richmond BART station led to the brief closure of the station Monday morning, but a subsequent search led police to a person possessing a deceptively real-looking BB gun.

BART police announced the station’s closure due to police activity at about 11:30 a.m., and the station remained closed for about a half hour. BART police had received calls from several witnesses about a subject armed with a gun at the station, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.

Richmond officers assisted at the scene, helping evacuate the station and sealing off the perimeter, Tan said. During a subsequent search, a Richmond cop detained a subject that closely matched the description provided to police, he said.

The suspect possessed a BB gun “designed to look like a real semi-auto pistol,” the lieutenant said.

Richmond police posted a photo of the BB gun (see below) on Facebook, noting how much it looks like a real gun.

No one at the station came forward to police to say they were victimized by the person who possessed the BB gun, Tan said. The person, whose identity was not available, was cited and released, a BART police official said.
