Residents of the Monterey Pines Apartments in Richmond will be treated to a free block party on Saturday, Sept. 19, courtesy of Praise Fellowship Bible Church.
The church at 5221 Central Ave. is holding the event in order to bring love and unity to residents of a complex that has unfortunately made headlines for a string of gang violence this year. The church will begin setting up for the block party at Monterey Pines, near Kennedy High, at 11 a.m. Bags of groceries will be offered to residents along with various fun family activities.
In addition, Minister Larry Austin (pictured above) will minister in rap, organizers said.
The party is solely for Monterey Pines residents.
“The residents have experienced so much disparity and loss,” said Vannessa Callaway of Praise Fellowship Bible Church. “PFBC Church and friends want the residents to know that we love them and they are not forgotten.”
In the near future, Callaway says, the church plans to visit other housing complexes needing some TLC.
Volunteers are needed for the Monterey Pines block party’s various activities, and the church is encouraging its members to help bag groceries at 7 p.m. at the church on the Friday before the block party. See the flyer below for more information.
