The West Contra Costa Unified School District is inviting parents and guardians to attend Back to School Night events at their children’s schools as a way to meet teachers and learn classroom expectations and goals.

Elementary schools will hold Back to School Night events on Thursday, while middle schools will hold their events the following week on Sept. 17, according to the district. At most high schools, Back to School Night will be Thursday, Sept. 24. El Cerrito High School will hold its event on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The district is asking parents and guardians to contact their child’s school to confirm the date and time.

“We know that active and engaged parents are the key indicator of a child’s academic success,” WCCUSD Board of Education President Todd Groves said in a statement. “Attending Back to School Night is just one way in which a parent can be an active participant in their child’s education. Using this opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and understand classroom expectations can improve communication between home and school and ensure that your child is receiving a consistent and positive message about the importance of his or her education.”
