Many local residents witnessed a wild pursuit through Richmond Wednesday that included California Highway Patrol vehicles, a helicopter and fixed wing airplane.

One witness shot this 16-second clip of the chase as it bolted down 23rd Street amid significant traffic.

During the chase, the CHP air support was “above calling the chase” as it went “up and down 23rd Street three times,” the witness stated.

As we reported Wednesday afternoon, the driver was identified as Anthony Doss, 21, of Richmond. He was unlicensed when CHP attempted to pull him over for speeding near North Richmond at 12:48 p.m., authorities said. He led CHP on a pursuit in the westbound lanes of Interstate 580, looped around at the Buchanan Street exit in Albany and returned eastbound on 580.

The chase then continued up 23rd Street and headed onto Rumrill Boulevard before coming to a stop at 6th Street and Virginia Avenue, where Doss was arrested, CHP said.

Doss was booked on suspicion of two felonies, a misdemeanor and a parole violation following the pursuit, CHP said.

No injuries were reported.
