Construction to begin Monday on Nevin Avenue improvements; neighbors can pick up parking passes

Construction is set to begin Monday on the Nevin Avenue Improvement Project, which aims to create a safe and more scenic route for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers between BART station and Civic Center Plaza.

The first phase of construction will impact Nevin Avenue between 19th and 27th streets. The plans for those eight blocks, made possible with mostly federal funds, includes wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes, 100 trees and other landscaping, a traffic circle, crosswalks with pedestrian flashers and improved lighting for nighttime travel.

During the construction, the city will issue temporary parking permits for residents who reside on and adjacent to Nevin Ave., officials said. Residents must show the city a current utility bill with identification in order to be issued a parking pass.

For details of the construction, impacted residents and businesses are invited from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet with city officials at the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Office at 3925 Macdonald Ave. Neighbors can also call Jacqueline Majors at 925-949-6196 for more information.
