The Richmond Main Post Office at 1025 Nevin Ave. has been temporarily closed after mold was discovered in its basement, the U.S. Postal Office announced Thursday.
A water leak several weeks ago appears to have caused the mold, which was discovered during a periodic check of the basement, officials said. The mold doesn’t appear to have sickened any employees, a spokesperson told Bay City News.
As of Thursday afternoon, there was no estimate for when the mold eradication would be complete. Repairs could include the removal of a rug or portions of the wall, officials said.
Customers with a P.O. Box at the Nevin Avenue location can pick up their mail at the McVittie Annex Station’s will-call door at 2100 Chanslor Ave. in Richmond. There is no retail service at the location, which is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
P.O. box customers will need to show a valid form of identification to pick up their mail.
Customers can visit the Point, Mira Vista, San Pablo or El Sobrante stations for service.
