Unlicensed driver's car stereo could be heard from 'a block away;' results in gun bust

Richmond police seized a semi-automatic pistol loaded with 32 bullets last week after an unlicensed driver drew attention to himself by blasting his car stereo.

Bravo unit officers who had been patrolling the city’s Southern District about 5:30 p.m. Friday said the volume coming from the suspect’s car was so loud they could hear from a block away, police said.

Officers went searching for the vehicle and subsequently conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Florida Ave.  They soon learned the driver was unlicensed. After a search of the car, they discovered the magazine of a gun in a lunch pail and the gun that goes with it in bag in the rear of the car, according to police.

The gun was identified as a loaded Ruger 9mm semi-automatic pistol, police said (see photo below).

The suspect, whose identity wasn’t immediately available, was arrested on firearm charges.
