Shopping at Whole Foods in Berkeley on Wednesday to benefit Rosie the Riveter programs

Hold off on your grocery shopping until Wednesday, if possible.

The Whole Foods Market at 1025 Gilman St. in Berkeley has pledged to donate 5-percent of the store’s net proceeds for Wednesday to help fund programs by Rosie the Riveter Trust and the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond. Store hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Along with youth and school programs, the funds will help preserve WWII Home Front sites as sources of information and education, according to Rosie the Riveter Trust.

A Facebook post by Rosie the Riveter Trust stated: “No donation needed- just make your regular grocery run.”

“Your cart full of goodies turns into free public education programs for kids of all ages,” it added.

We recently wrote about one of those programs, called “Rosie’s Girls,” which trains students from grades six through eight in non-traditional jobs during the summer while helping them build character and learn teamwork skills.
