LifeLong Urgent Care of San Pablo to expand hours due to demand

LifeLong Urgent Care of San Pablo — located across the street from the shuttered Doctors Medical Center (DMC) —  has announced expanded hours in response to the demand for care.

Starting Monday, the urgent care facility at 2023 Vale Road will open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

LifeLong credited the expanded hours to a $2 million grant secured after lobbying by Assemblymember Tony Thurmond.

The nonprofit urgent care center has been trying to absorb some of the patients who would visit DMC’s emergency room before the financially-crippled safety-net hospital closed in April. The DMC closure has lengthened both ambulance trips and wait times in the ERs of other hospitals, including Kaiser Richmond, according to Bay City News.

LifeLong is trying to ease the stress. It wants to attract patients with medical emergencies that require attention but are not life threatening. Of the 80 to 100 patients who would visit DMC’s ER daily, about 85-percent did not have a life threatening condition, Marty Lynch, CEO of LifeLong, told us Apr. 20.

“We will do all that we can as a community health center to provide a wide range of services in a caring environment,” Lynch said in a statement this week. “As we continue to work with other organizations to meet the health care needs of all West County residents, we are appreciative of the continued support of our elected officials and community partners.”
