An attempt in Richmond this Saturday to set a Guinness World Record for “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as a Rosie the Riveter” is getting a boost from the city’s award-winning coffee company.

Catahoula Coffee Co. at 12472 San Pablo Ave. has pledged a free drink Saturday for those dressed in their complete Rosie the Riveter outfit.

The highly anticipated Rosie Rally encourages women of all ages to dress up like Rosie and gather at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rosie the Riveter Memorial in Marina Park (corner of Regatta Boulevard and Melville Square). Organizers hope to break the Guinness World Record set last year when 776 Rosies met at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI.

The first 100 people to arrive at the Rosie Rally will receive a free pack with the official bandana and socks provided by Rosie the Riveter Trust, according to The Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park. The packs will otherwise be available for purchase for $7.

siteplan.8-12The Rosie Rally will occur on the same day as the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII on Aug. 14, 1945, and is part of a worldwide effort by the Spirit of ’45 to honor those who served during the war. Rosie the Riveter was the cultural icon who represented American women who worked in factories and shipyards during WWII.

The event will include a musical performance by the Swingin’ Blue Stars, the unveiling of a sculpture of Rosie by Seward Johnson, and a ceremony to commemorate the end of the war, followed by a photo of all the Rosies, museum officials said.

Men are welcome to attend and assist with world record attempt. Please visit here for more information.
