Tonight, block parties will be happening in neighborhoods across the U.S., including in West County cities such as Richmond, as part of National Night Out (NNO), which aims to build bonds between neighbors and police officers and increase crime prevention education.
In Richmond, 27 locations will host NNO events. The night will kick off at the Target Parking lot at 4500 Macdonald Ave., where a caravan of law enforcement, fire and crime prevention officials will start their journey through the city visiting various neighborhood parties.
The caravan of officials will end at Pullman Point, 2801 Pullman Ave., for a celebration about 8 p.m.
Along with building relationships, law enforcement and fire officials will encourage residents to turn their porch lights on and employ other crime prevention tactics, encourage neighbors to get to know one another and build and rebuild neighborhood watch programs.
Richmond’s NNO is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and more than 28 million people across the country are expected to turn out tonight.
